Cell Phones

January 11, 2006 / by Bookworm

It seems where ever I go these days, that I see people on cell phones. I don't think it is all business either. I'm thinking a lot of these people like to be talking to some one all the time or maybe they can't find any other time to communicate with whoever they are talking with.

Two of my kids always call me from their cell phones. My son usually calls when he is traveling. He does have a speaker so can still drive and talk without having to use him hand, but he is always fading out and then he loses us. Then my youngest daughter always calls from her cell phone when she is on her way to a store or else in a store shopping. I've never really asked them why they call from their cell phones. I guess I should just be glad that they do call.

One day I was in a Walmart store and going down a main walkway and there was a guy at the beginnng of an aisle and as I walked by he said, "Hello". So, I answered him back with a hello. Then he asked, "How are you"? I answered him saying I was good. Then he asked "What are you doing?" With that I turned around and walked back by the aisle as I couldn't understand why he was so friendly and maybe it was someone I knew and didn't recoganize when I walked by the aisle. When I got back to the aisle, there he was talking on his cell phone and wasn't talking to me at all. I felt like a fool, but maybe he didn't even hear me answeriing him as he did have his back turned.

I myself don't have a cell phone. My husband has one, but doesn't use it that often. He tries to get me to take it with me when I go for a walk, but I always refuse. I find them confusing. Maybe I should catch up with the modern times.

lol Ive had the same thing happen to me. My whole family has cells. I think in this day and age its probably a good thing that they do. I like being able to get in touch with them whenever I need to. I view it as a convenience though, not as a necessity. I never had one when i was younger, and we made out fine without them.[SMILE]

The things can be annoying, but are nigh essential for long-distance relationships.

[LOL] I'm sorry but I HAVE to laugh at your story about Walmart... cell phones can be the darndest thing indeed -- especially now that they ahve these cordless ear piece things! I remember when I went to austria several years back, EVERY one had a cell phone and were on it tenfold then we are here in the US... at least back then.

I really know how you feel about cell phones and the use people make of them and the types of uses - metaphoric hand holding being the most frequent one, from what I can see. We have one each, mostly as needs must - wish it wasn't like that though, but grateful for the technology in the circumstances.[SMILE]

I bought.. but, seldom use a TracFone. In that way I can control the costs. No reoccurring monthly expense or anything like that. They're good for an emergency communications device.. soforth.

The ironic thing is.. If I get within three miles of home I can't get a signal. Nobody can with anything but the old analog type cell phones.

Just one of those little prices one pays to live in the Backwoods. [ROLLEYES]
